The Kabi Kabi Ranger Program is a vital initiative supporting our people to care for country through land and sea management, cultural revitalisation, and environmental stewardship.

Rangers are trained and employed to deliver a range of activities including land maintenance, weed and pest control, water monitoring and identification and protection of significant sites. This program not only supports healthy country but also strengthens cultural knowledge and employment pathways for Kabi Kabi people.

KKPAC leads the negotiation and implementation of Cultural Heritage Management Agreements on behalf of the Kabi Kabi to ensure the protection of their cultural values in areas affected by development.

These agreements require developers and project proponents to engage with KKPAC to conduct cultural heritage assessments, manage artefacts, and follow appropriate protocols.

Through this work, KKPAC ensures cultural knowledge is respected, heritage is protected, and our people are involved in decision-making on Country.

The proposed Qld Hydro power generation project is a large development planned on Kabi Kabi country.  KKPAC is working closely with Queensland Hydro to ensure that the Borumba Pumped Hydro Project is progressed in a way that respects Kabi Kabi rights, culture, and country.

This includes ongoing cultural heritage assessments, negotiation of benefit-sharing arrangements and ensuring free, prior and informed consent is central to engagement.

KKPAC’s role is to safeguard cultural values and ensure that Kabi Kabi people have a strong voice in shaping the future of this major infrastructure development.
