Cultural Heritage work is a key strategic pillar of KKPAC’s responsibilities (Healthy Country Plan 2022-32). The work of cultural heritage is critically important in caring for country and culture - and is also a proud pathway to a career for Kabi Kabi people in land management, and cultural professions such as anthropology or archaeology.

KKPAC will always work alongside specialist technical advisors. However in the past few months the KKPAC team has moved quickly to set up structures, policies and processes that enables KKPAC to manage more cultural heritage fieldwork directly for our Members. This means less reliance on outside providers and more control in KKPAC’s hands (plus more work for Kabi Kabi people).
Members have been sent an Expression of Interest form for Fieldwork opportunities via email, and we have been busy handling all the responses. These positions are for people who have experience in Cultural Heritage work and want to help protect Country.
For those who want to learn how to protect Kabi Kabi CH, KKPAC is also designing a Kabi-specific training package, taught by Kabi Kabi to Kabi Kabi to qualify our people who are interested in building the knowledge, safety, and consistency needed to do this work the right way.
More information on this will be coming soon so watch this space.
